Berkeley Micro Brew Festival

Monday's Micro Brew Festival in Berkeley was a total blast!!! This is the way the Small Brewer's Festival in Mountain View should be run... In any event, with 51 breweries in attendance on a beautiful, crystal-clear, blue-sky Labor Day, there was one huge Big-Top tent situated at the south end of the park across from city hall with 16 breweries in it. In addition, there were two smaller tents each holding roughly 16-18 breweries on the east end of the park... There were wonderful sounds being produced by a variety of local musicians, which wafted gently through the grassy park all afternoon, and with about 8,000 people in attendance, these musicians easily held the crowd's attention when they weren't busy sampling a plethora of beer from around the area! We went through five kegs from when the starting bell that rang at noon, until we had to stop serving at 7:00pm. Throughout the day we continued to receive a lot of GREAT compliments about our beer being the best beer at the festival, as was evidenced by the number of repeat customers and the friends they were telling... In addition, we also sold 20 t-shirts!!! Therefore, if you are up for a festive day next year, and are around Berkeley for Labor Day, you should definitely add this festival to your calendar of events to attend!!!

On the other hand, Saturday's pre-game tailgate party for the San Jose State Spartans and the Stanford Cardinal football game, kind of fizzled before it even gotten started (very loosely organized)... However, the game was REAL exciting, especially since this was the first time in 95 years that Stanford has travelled south to play in Spartan stadium!!! In addition, we still have some coupons left for the Shark & Rose that entitle the bearer of said coupon to a pint of Hoppy Face and a choice of Fish & Chips or Shark Tacos for only $5.00; so if you know of anyone that wants some of these coupons, please let me know! I think you'll know where to find me for the month of September when it comes to eating...

SJ Chamber of Commerce

Pat got with Jeff Chaney to become a member of the SJ Chamber of Commerce, and I attended a "little" social mixer at Blake's last night to do a little networking. Steve Tedesco, the President of the Chamber, is very anxious for us to get our brewpub open in Willow Glen, and wants to help in whatever way he possibly can!!!

Marin Music Festival

The Marin Music Festival on Aug 27th was a REAL blast! Pat our distributor from Bay Area Distributing coordinated this event with the other breweries being Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada!!! There were about 5,000 people soaking up the sun at the Marin Civic Center Lagoon Park from noon till 6:00pm to watch the likes of Booker T & The MG's, David Grisman, Charlie Hunter, Sister Soul & The Frolic, Collage of I, and surprise guest appearance's by Bob Wier & Bonny Rait (sp?). What a day!!!

Tahoe Fat Tire Festival

Tahoe Fat Tire Festival went VERY well!!!

Breweries in attendance: Full Sail, Sierra Nevada, St. Stans, Marin Brewing Company, Gordon Biersch, Red Seal, Hubsch Brau, Pacific Hop Exchange, Golden Pacific, Red Hook, HecklerBrau, Blue Water Brewing Company, Red Ass Brewing Company, and us.

We went through 3.5 kegs from noon till dark, and continue to WOW consumer's who haven't had a Hoppy before... There were like five (5) tents scattered about in this little park right on the banks of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City (man what a beautiful place), with about 4 or 5 breweries in each tent. We shared a tent with Pacific Hop, Red Hook, and Golden Pacific, and were pretty much the main attraction! People would come for a Red Hook, and in some cases get a Hoppy, simply because no one would be pouring at that station. There was live entertainment all day, and basically just lots of GOOD clean fun...

Pleasanton HopFest

The HopFest in Pleasanton from 4:00-8:00pm on Aug 12th was like a BIG beer bash! With 40 micro's in attendance, and about 2,000 people there to consume beer, things got a little crazy... The festival was held in a parking lot, with too few bathrooms to boot; not very conducive to embibing in quality beer(s)! We got alot of good feedback (becoming a habit) about our beer, managed to find a couple of places that wanted to carry our beer (bonus points), and got to sample some of Redhook's "hard to find" unfiltered rye beer! Steve also gets bonus points for making a jockey box rise from the dead at the last minute!!!

San Jose Jazz Festival

The San Jose Jazz Festival on Aug 12/13th was pretty "cool" with the jazz and all, but it wasn't quite what we had been led to believe with expected beer sales; that was in part do to the location of the "beer garden"... Andy coordinated this event after Michelle left, and gets bonus points for finding additional "prime" booth space for the second day of the festival, which helped to increase our beer sales! Things ran incredibly smooth, and the teamwork at this festival was magnificent too!!! Next year, we'll have some input as to how/where we think the "beer garden" should be...

Tony

For those that missed an opportunity for a five (5) star FREE meal, you missed it... Tony did his cooking thing earlier this evening, and boy was it GOOD!!! He'll do more down the road, so mark your calendars the next time this happens...

For starters, we had Beef Brew Stew prepared with Hoppy Face (four bottles went in the stew, and two went into Tony), that was really good, albeit a tad too spicy for those weak at heart. We then had an appetizer of Linguini Cajun Prawns w/ cilantro, spices, and olive oil that was absolutely terrific, and between those two items that was really a complete meal in itself!!! For an entree, we had our choice of New York Steak with green pepper corns and mushrooms in brandy sauce, or Blackened Pork Chops with herb butter and demiglass sauce. I had the Chops, and man were they SUPERB!!! For desert, we had a very nice chocolate and vanilla slice of ice cream pie, compliments of the Scoop It Up Ice Cream Parlor.

Well...one things for sure, and that is Tony can cook!!!
