HOPPY FEEDBACK!!!
With Spring breaking out of the grips of Winter,
it's time to roll up the sleeves and get busy doing some cleaning. With that
being said, please feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone you think
might enjoy reading our "hoppy" news...
HOPPY NEW BEER!!!
ERHOPTION STOUT: Like a volcano blowing itself apart, this beer is here and
gone. We have made several different stouts over the years, but we have
not made a hopped-up American-style one yet. One hops variety we were
curious about but did not get to try during last year's Hops Clinic series was
one called Mt. Rainier; so we got a box of that to play with, and it is a good
thing we did. Apparently this variety did not catch on with enough
brewers, and it will not be grown again after this past year. For one
thing, it seems to be more of a lager variety, and the craft brew scene is
pretty ale heavy. However, the "noble aroma with licorice and citrusy
notes" in the description seems to suit a stout pretty well. We have
formulated a suitably complex malt bill to support the hops, but the focus will
be on the Mt. Rainier – which you may never taste again. Alcohol by volume
is estimated to be around 6.0%, it is comparable to maybe a Sierra Nevada Stout,
and it should be on tap any day now.
The next Brewer's Special after that
will be Mr. Chris Baerwaldt's Smoked Ale - Kourový
Kabát
(Smoky Jacket), which will be out in the beginning of April.
Utilizing smoked grain from Bamberg, Germany, the birth place of smoked beers,
noble hops from the Czech Republic, and a California Ale Yeast, this beer is an
international melting pot of smoky love. With 25% of the grain bill being
smoked grain, you get a good dose of smoke, but your taste buds are left intact
to enjoy the other flavors in the beer from the sweetness of the grain
mixture to the spiciness of the hops. The after taste on your tongue is a
pleasant toasty spicy flavor…and it burps quite nicely also. The alcohol
by volume will be around 6.0%.
In addition to new beer, we are proud to announce a new distributor - FOX
DELUXE - for those of you living in the Windy City - Chicago, IL, you will be
able to drink fresh Hoppy Brew by the first of June. Contact Mr. Terry
Richards (foxdeluxe@sbcglobal.net)
at Fox Deluxe with details on where you would like to find our Hoppy beer.
With that being said, the good folks at Hill Distributing started hitting the
streets of Columbus, OH & surrounding areas with Hoppy last month, and the crew
from Florida Micro Breveage down in Florida is growing like a southern wildfire;
so if you are looking for one, or more, of our Hoppy products, please feel FREE
to send Mr. Tyson Herzog (tyson@hoppy.com)
an email indicating where you would like to purchase our Hoppy brands.
HOPPY LOVES BASEBALL...
With the cold of winter fading, the heat of summer approaching, and spring
training getting under way, baseball season is once again upon us. As the
players practice amongst the cactus and grapefruit, every team has the same hope
of playing in October. With that being the case, Hoppy is once again glad
to offer ALL of the baseball games via the Major League Baseball package.
Therefore, if you have a team that you like to follow, like our head brewer Mr.
Ed Kopta who perpetually insists on watching the Chicago White Sox, feel free to
stop in and check out your team. In addition, if you have a laptop with a
wireless card, and want to get a little work done while having a cold tasty
Hoppy brew and watching a game online at MLB.TV, just ask your server or
bartender for your FREE access code to the internet.
Speaking of
baseball, each year a contingent of A's and Red Sox fans will be making the trip
down to the Oakland Coliseum to watch the game on Wednesday, April 20th at
12:35pm. Yes, we know it is a month away, but in order to get good seats,
the tickets need to be reserved early. Please signup at the bar, and/or
let Mr. Scott Patterson at (scott@hoppy.com
) know of your intention to go. Deadline for signing up and paying is
Thursday, March 31st.
With that being said, as has been done previously,
the first 25 people to signup {and pay} will get a spot on the Capitol Corridor
train that leaves Sacramento at 9:20am or 10:10am. The returning train
leaves the Coliseum at 3:59pm and gets back to Sacramento at 6:10pm.
Tickets are $75 each, which includes Field Level seat by 3rd base, and round
trip on the train. However, for those that took the trip last year, and
were not in a hurry to get back to Sacramento, stops were made via BART at
Pacific Coast Brewing in downtown Oakland, Triple Rock Brewery and the Jupiter
Taphouse in Berkeley before catching the 8:42pm or 9:57pm train out of Richmond
back to Sacramento. :)

Beer Week, and so far it has been a HUGE success! Visit our link at:
http://hoppy.com/Events/sacbeerweek2011/index.html for more details on
what is still left.
The Hoppy Crew has been hard at work on putting a new
TV commercial together the past couple of months, and with that being said, the
following link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSPk5EbrFyQ on YouTube has it for you to
watch prior to seeing it actually on TV. If you check it out, feel FREE to
send us your thoughts at (hbc@hoppy.com)
since we are interested in seeing what kind of response it gets.
Looking
for a place to watch a Kings game while they are still in Sacramento??? As
usual, Hoppy Brewing will be showing all of the Sacramento Kings games via
Comcast Sports Network. In addition to just the Kings games, we will once
again have the option to watch any NBA game this season; so stop in for Hoppy
Hour and watch your favorite east coast teams. Also, as usual, we will
suspend reservations during Kings games in the main dining area. Therefore, if
you have a group of people and want a great seat for the game, then make sure
that your entire group arrives early...
In addition to having the NBA
League Pass each year, Hoppy continues to carry the NFL Sunday Ticket (in High
Definition), MLB Extra Innings, and for the hockey faithful - the NHL Center
Ice. Therefore, if you have an ounce of hockey blood in you, make sure to
visit Hoppy when the urge for a puck moment strikes you and help support those
Pacific Division leading San Jose Sharks... :)

HOPPY UPCOMING EVENTS!!!
PAY ATTENTION: The first begins early this month - This morning on
Sacramento's Channel 3 KCRA / Channel 58 KQCA you will find our brewer Mr. Ed
Kopta teaching the finer points of beer-making, "How to pour a proper pint", and
details about Hoppy, along with the last few days of Sacramento Beer Week.
Watch for Ed in the 8 o'clock hour. However, if you miss it, you will
probably be able to find it later in the day on YouTube.
In addition,
today the updated Dinner Menu here at Hoppy makes its debut. A ton of new
small plate items, pasta & burger options, plus a few new entrees like a Bison
Rib Eye are now on the menu. Stop in and check the menu out. Also coming
out this month will be updated Lunch and Brunch menus, so stay tuned for those
announcements as well.
Coming this Saturday, March 05th, is the monthly
return of The Spillit Quikkers!!! Yes ladies and gentlemen, it is that
time again, and it is time to show up on Saturday between 11:00am and 1:00pm to
catch some of the hippest, coolest, grooviest, acoustic tunes this side of the
Mississippi River. Make plans to show up, grab some grub and suds while
kicking back and listening to the TSQ's do their thing...
Also on
Saturday, the Road crew heads to Cal Expo for the last couple days of Beer week
where you can sample many local brews at the Capital Beerfest for details:
http://sacramentobeerweek.com. This year, they had an idea. What if they
threw the biggest beer festival Sacramento has ever seen? What if they collected
the best breweries from across California, including small craft breweries that
have never beer poured in Sacramento before? What if they tossed in a
handful of our favorite breweries from around the world? They then stopped
asking rhetorical questions and began planning the Capital Beerfest.
The
public session is from 1-4:00pm, with a VIP session of special and rare beer
from noon-1:00pm. If you are a connoisseur looking for a variety of rare,
special selections, then this session is especially for you! They are
expecting more than 60 breweries to participate, so they can guarantee that
there will be beers you have never tasted before! In addition, they will
also be running a free shuttle to and from Midtown so you can travel safely, and
get chauffeured towards the majority of SacBeerWeek events later that evening.
Several buses will loop from the Light Rail station at R/30th, pick up
passengers along 30th to take to Cal Expo, and return down 29th Street from
11:30am-5:00pm. Tickets are: $30 General Admission - $60 VIP + General Admission
- $5 Designated Driver - Show up and have some suds and fun! :)
Coming on
Tuesday, March 08th, is a slightly different twist for Mardi Gras. As
Hoppy has done in past years, just bring in your favorite set of beads, and if
they meet with the Bartender/Server's satisfaction, you may exchange them for a
pint of a tasty Hoppy brew - you get the beer and we keep the beads.
However, only one set of beads per person will be accepted for this special
offer...
On Sunday, March 13th, or better yet, on Saturday night, March
12th, before you go to bed, make sure your clocks are adjusted "forward" for the
beginning of Daylight Savings Time. You can thank your respective
congressional representatives for this biannual ritual we Americans continue to
endure...
On Thursday, March 17th, St. Patrick's Day is sure to feature a
day of more Corned Beef & Cabbage, and even more green beer if you like, than is
probably recommended by your doctor; so plan on making Hoppy one of your stops
on this day of celebration!!! In addition, if you are not partied out by
10:00pm, the 14th Season Premiere of South Park will kick off their new season;
so stop in and see what Cartman might do this season... ;)
Also on
Thursday, all of the closet college basketball fans come out of their winter
hiding for the beginning of the annual NCAA Basketball playoffs, better known as
- March Madness - with their proverbial "Brackets" in hand. Maybe your team will
be part of the post-season, or maybe you will be the lucky bracket winner - who
knows??? Regardless, plan on coming by Hoppy for some awesome college basketball
in true Hi-Definition during the road to the Final Four... :)
On
Saturday, March 19th, St. Albans Country Day School celebrates: Pleasures of the
Palate at Morgan Creek Golf Club (2312 Vernon Street Roseville, CA 95678). This
annual event of gourmet food, wine tasting, Hoppy Beer, and silent & live
auctions provides SAPA with its greatest source of funds. For additional
details call - 916.782.3557
On Friday, March 25th, the road crew travels
to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds to help the Active 20/30 club of Santa Rosa
celebrate their 15th annual Battle of the Brews. This event has raised
nearly $1,000,000 for local children charities. This years event features over
30 breweries and over 20 different food vendors, Live music featuring Love Fool
and Pat Jordan Band. This event draws about 1800 attendees each year. For

Remember...the craft brew industry is very competitive, and we can always use
your help when you are out there in the bars, restaurants, grocery stores, &
etc. How can you help us you may be asking yourself??? Well...ask
your local retailer(s) for our products (to the point of bugging them if
necessary), so that you are able to buy the products that you "really" want -
not just what is on the store shelf, or on-tap, at the moment...
You, the
consumer, have more power than you may know. Speak up, speak clearly, and
your earnest taste buds may reap those proactive rewards. If you do this,
then we are sure it will not be long before you will be able to enjoy our Liquid
Sunshine™ Blonde, Hoppy Face™ Amber, Stony Face™ Red, and Total Eclipse™ Black
Ales outside of attending a local festival, or even visiting us here in
Sacramento...
With that being said, Mr. Tyson Herzog wants to know where
you shop for beer. Please send an email to Mr. Tyson Herzog at
